DIGITAL NEWS • Filming // Package

Interview:

Set Up:
  • The day before we planned to film our interview, we put together our set, moving sofas and tables into one of the lecture rooms so that it looked like a casual space and wasn't too formal. We used our own personalised props like mugs and cue cards with the interviewers questions on to keep our brand running through all our shots.
  • We also set up our lights before they day as well because from previous experience, we know that they take time to set up. We got two other students to be stand ins and sit in the positions where our interviewee and interviewer would be sitting so that we could get the lighting right and make sure there were no harsh shadows. This meant that the cameras were in the basic positions and that after we set up our cameras on the day, they could be easily adjusted so that it looked good on camera.

Cameras:
  • We had two cameras filming the interview at the same time, one on the tracking dolly filming a wide shot and the other on a close up of Katie (interviewee). This meant that we had shots to cut between and that we only had to film our interview once with Katie.
  • After we'd finished with her, we moved our camera and filmed close ups of our presenter, Josh, and noddys of him.
  • To make sure his eye line was right, we made our director beck sit where Katie was so that he knew where to look and direct his questions.
Sound:
  • When recording the sound we used a clip mic connected to a zoom, operated by Ida, which we put on Katie so that we could get her sound clear and good as her answers were the most important part of the interview. When we recorded our close ups of Josh we then switched and put the clip mic on Josh so that we could get his questions clear too.

Step by Step Guide:

  • We only used one camera to film our step by step guide.
  • For three of the shots we kept the camera on the dolly or static, but there was one shot which was handheld where Josh picks up the camera himself so it looks like a point of view shot.
  • We filmed in various locations around the baseroom so that the separate steps had some difference to them and didn't all look that same.
