DIGITAL MEDIA • Social Media

Behind the Scenes Posts

In order to promote our digital news channel, we decided to use social media. This worked as our age range is students and younger audiences who are most likely to hear about us on social media sites. We created a Facebook account that I manage, Twitter which is updated by Ida and a Youtube Channel, controlled by Josh.

The Facebook page is where we first uploaded our viral videos and was the only pace people could watch it as we didn't want the views to be split. This way we could see exactly how many people had watched them both and we could share the videos with a mass amount of people.

The posts since then have been short ones advertising our website and trying to get people to go over and see what things we've been posting. We also did a series of "Get to know us" posts where Josh had made small posters that include and image and short description of each of us which have been posted over the past few weeks, each one linking back to our website.

About Us Posters

I also did a count down where I uploaded a post everyday counting down the days until the release of our video. Becca and I created little images to go with these posts, either a screen shot from the actual production or a behind the scenes photo as including the number of days. In between these posts we gave our audience sneak previews of what's to come in the episode and the day before the release we posted our promo trailer so that our audience could really see what Student Yak is about and out style.

Countdown Posts from our Facebook Page

I posted links to our articles to get people on our website to get our audience to read them. We now have articles in every section on our website so if they do go and read one, more will be suggested to them on one hand side of the website.

Student Yak Post - The Walking Dead

This has been a really good way to us to connect with our audience and we have had quite a few interactions with people commenting on our posts and sharing them with their their friends. We hope to get quite a few people watching our final production when it is released now that we have built up our audiences and kept them up to date with our activities.
