Self Portrait - Lucian Freud (Painter)

Reflection With Two Children (Self-Portrait) (1965)

Reflection With Two Children (Self-Portrait) (1965) by Lucian Freud.
This self-portrait shows painter Lucian Freud looking at his own reflection and his two children.

This painting is a reflection in a mirror of the artist Lucian Freud and his two children. It shows how he is distanced from his children. The size difference between them also shows that there alienated from each other, almost as if he is a stranger to them. He has been painting in all grey showing that he is cold and a 'lone wolf' type of character. His distorted face shows us that maybe the painting doesn't his true self or that he doesn't see himself as a person. The colours used to paint his face make him look pale and cold.

This painting shows how Lucian Freud sees himself, something that I want my self-portrait video to do. This painting is very truthful and although there's is not much to the image, you can see a lot. I want to keep my self portrait quite simple but make it clear to the audience what is going on in the video.
