TV Drama - Gotham
Many of the scenes take place in the city. There are lots of dark alleyways and streets with reflections of flashing signs from shops in puddles of rain on the floor - similar to the film noir style. This gives the series a mysterious and eerie feel to it as the camera follows the characters down there dark streets. The episodes contain typical connotations of the action genre. I think the director has done this to not only keep up the pace and excitement in the story but to attract a wider audience by combining more than one genre in the show.
Similar to Luther, the camera is always moving to keep up the pace and action. It is also place in the middle of the action so that the audience feel like they are right there with the characters. Danny Cannon directed the first two episodes and set up the style which carried on throughout the series. He is a British writer, director and producer who has also directed episodes of Alcatraz and Nikita. There are lots of cuts in there scenes, where the camera moves to different angles so that the audience can see the action happen.
The directing style of Gotham has inspired me in my filming, as I now want to make sure that my audience is engaged with the story and feel like they are part of it. I am going to film from lots of different angles and
