STUDIO PRODUCTION • Style Bible

When make the Style Bible for The Big Movie Quiz, Ellen and I started by looking at previous examples to see what types of things needed to be included. The mains sections that were included were Font, Backgrounds, Colour Schemes, lower Thirds, Set Design, Props and Costume and a basic Lighting Plan. These give anyone reading it detailed information on the themes, and for people editing VTs, they can see what font types, color and sizes they should use if the included any text. To do this, we spoke to the Producer Josh and Directer Becca to get the information we didn't already know and see if there was anything else they wanted to be included.

Font: for this section we included the main font of the show which was used on the logo, along with a note telling the group that it can be downloaded from the shared Google Drive. We also included the the style, size, color with the color code and whether it is placed on a white or transparent background. This makes the branding of the show clear to everyone. We included 2 different types of font, one which is used for the main headings and then one which is used for subheading.

Background: For the background we used a red stage curtain which will be included in the logo, titles sequence and the stings. This was discussed and agreed on by the producer and matches with the background of the set so it all keeps to the same theme. This is included in the style bible so any other editors know what image to use if the need it.

Colour Scheme: We have 4 different colours included in our colour scheme, red to match the background, two different shades of orange, one light, one dark to match the gradient colour of the text and muted yellow to match the gold boarder around the logo. We included images of the colours and the RGB information as well as the code for the colours which is good for when using them in photoshop etc. Including this informations means that everyone is using the same colours exactly and we keep with a consistent theme.

Lower Thirds: We created an example lower third that would appear in the show, this included the design and text in the middle so people can see what it would look like. We don't yet know the names of the host or contestants so we couldn't create the final design. We also included and image where the lower text appears of an image of the set design to show where it will be situated on the screen and the sizing. This helps any other editors to know where to put their lower thirds if any are included in the VTs. We also included information about the type of animation that will be used.

Lighting: This was discussed with the Director and the Lighting Assistant, we looked at the basic lighting set up we would need to include the audience, the set and the different positions of the host and contestants throughout the different rounds. The director also provided us with example images of what we want some of the lighting to look like.

Set Design: We included the set design images that the producer created to give people a real idea of what the set might look like. It shows the set from different angles and gives an idea of where things might situated on set. It includes some of the props that we want.

Prop Design: This is where we included example images and short descriptions of the different props we want to include in the show. It includes the podiums for the contestants to stand behind, and the Gold Clapper Board which is the prize for the show. The descriptions include the number of them and the colours and design we would like to have.

Costume Design: This includes descriptions of the host outfit and some example images to give a visual representation. It was includes a short description of the type of details we want the outfit to have, specific items and colours.

Filming and Editing Settings: This is a section the producer asked us to include which describes the camera settings everyone should stick to and the editing and export details so that all VTs are all produced the same in the same format.

Creating the style is good reference for anyone needing to know the information included and means that there is one simple place people can go to find the information. It will also help to keep a consistency running through the show so that everything looks the same. Although there are some elements that may change based on decisions made by the producer and director, it is a good guide for other members of the crew.
