The Independant | Student
In order to get some ideas for our student news channel, I started doing research into some other already existing channels. When looking, I found that some main online news websites like The Guardian and The Independent have their own section online that specifically target students. These contained articles about things like university and student finance, however other than these topics, they contained nothing extra or different to the regular news site and in no other way targets students.

I felt that they weren't much different to the main news section and overall looked the same. They keep with their brand and haven't differed too much. This I understand as they want people to know that they own it and are the creators, but at the same time, it would be interesting and exciting to see something different. 

When reading these, as a student I personally didn’t find them any more interesting than the normal news and for our production we want it to be fun and exciting. We want our channel to be entertaining and I felt that all these student news channels were quite serious and had the same basic format as the main news. The Guardian and The Independent are quite serous news resources themselves and can be considered reputable sources however, I think from our point of view and considering what we're trying to create, that shows that there is a 'gap in the market' for our style of show. 

Not all students want a serious news channel and we aim to cater to this but not only including the important articles also including other things that students will be interested in like film and tv news, and the lasted trend on social media. 

In our meeting where we discussed our website, we talked about using bright colours t make it eye catching and something that people would want to click on, we want to include little animations and videos on the pages for people to watch. 

In terms of content, we want to make our videos quite relatable and keep up with current trends just like a news channel would. We also want our articles to not just be about student news but focusing on different types of news like the top trending thing on social media and the latest TV news.

PRE-PRODUCTION • Director of Photography | Research

I chose to be the director of photography (DOP) because I feel the over the course of the last two years my camera and lighting skills have increased greatly and I wanted to focus of those skills more in my final year. To fully immerse myself into being a DOP, it is important that I researched deeply into the role and what it would include. Being a Director of photography "includes creating the visual identity, or look of the film/ tv programme, they work with the Director, camera crew and lighting department to achieve this and they manage all aspects of filming, from ordering and overseeing equipment to reviewing footage." Scott and Bailey - TV Drama

Scott and Bailey is a British crime drama focusing on the lives of two female detectives. DC Rachel Bailey and DC Janet Scott are not only work colleagues but close friends, a main part of the story is their relationship and the problems they have.  In each episode, there are 3 to 4 different story lines, the main one being based in the police station, centred on a crime and the others about the personal lives of the main characters. For my script, I would like to do something similar, I want to have the main story line revolve around a major case they have given, and then the personal lives of my two main characters, Shane and Annie.  The characters have many flaws that are pointed out in multiple episodes.
