When deciding on the branding our channel, Josh had the idea of using a title he had previously created for a personal project he'd worked on in the summer. This worked with the idea we had the title conveyed nicely what our news channel is all about.

 We decided that for the website we were going to create, we wanted to have different sections so that we could split our news under heading so that they were easy to find. We gave them all specific titles that matched our title and branding.

 Some of the different titles we decided on are:
  • TV/Film Yak - this would be where we would include different film events that are local to the area that students would be interested in going to such as outdoor screenings. We also had the idea to include 60-second film reviews of a wide range of films.
  • (Un) Social Yak - This will be where we include some of the week's top social media stories that people have been interested in. 
  • Viral Yak - We wanted to explore the idea of viral videos and how they become so popular. We liked the idea of including something like "Viral video of the day" or "Meme of the day" at the end of our main video.  
  • Celebrity Yak - this will include the latest celeb news to keep students up to date on the goings-on in the world of celebrities. 
  • Tech Yak - this is where we thought of possibly reviewing new technology such as the iPhone 7 and the new Nokia. We also wanted to include a section where we test certain apps and review them to help people decide whether to download them or not. These apps would either be student related, such as an app for taking notes of storing information to apps for organising and maybe newly released games. 
  • Super Serious Yak - This category takes the serious news that we think students should be aware of and although still presents them in a funny way, it makes everyone aware that these stories are ones that should be taken seriously. for example, encouraging students to go and get the Meningitis Jab.  

Not all of these topics will be included in the main video however we decided that they were all good sections and that they could all be found on our website. We divided up the topics and have each taken on the responsibility of writing up the stories for each section.

PRE-PRODUCTION • Director of Photography | Research

I chose to be the director of photography (DOP) because I feel the over the course of the last two years my camera and lighting skills have increased greatly and I wanted to focus of those skills more in my final year. To fully immerse myself into being a DOP, it is important that I researched deeply into the role and what it would include. Being a Director of photography "includes creating the visual identity, or look of the film/ tv programme, they work with the Director, camera crew and lighting department to achieve this and they manage all aspects of filming, from ordering and overseeing equipment to reviewing footage." Scott and Bailey - TV Drama

Scott and Bailey is a British crime drama focusing on the lives of two female detectives. DC Rachel Bailey and DC Janet Scott are not only work colleagues but close friends, a main part of the story is their relationship and the problems they have.  In each episode, there are 3 to 4 different story lines, the main one being based in the police station, centred on a crime and the others about the personal lives of the main characters. For my script, I would like to do something similar, I want to have the main story line revolve around a major case they have given, and then the personal lives of my two main characters, Shane and Annie.  The characters have many flaws that are pointed out in multiple episodes.
