STUDIO PRODUCTION • Trailer Research
When looking at trailers for shows similar to The Big Movie Quiz (TBMQ), I found that almost all of the trailer had clips from previous episodes and I found it very hard to find a trailer for a pilot show which is what we were trying to create.
I first looked at the trailer for 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown as the show is similar to the style of TBMQ. Their trailer contained lots of clips form the episodes of the show, including some comedy moments from the show. Although it was also like a compilation of the "best bits" of the show, you could still understand what the show does, and how it works. It clearly shows the two different teams, the fact that they are on different sides of their set showing they are competing against each other.
They also include a title card at the end which advertises that time and the channel that the audience can watch the show on which is something that Ellen and I wanted to make sure we included because it is important that people know when out show is on and the location.

Together with the promotions producer, Ellen and I needed to come up with a concept that we could use for our trailer that its entertaining and will make people want tot watch it but will also get across the premise of the show and what it is about.
We also looked at a trailer for Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway which was more like the idea that we wanted. The trailer shows the audience who the two main characters are but than that doesn't really show you what the show is about. It is more entertaining than informative although I partly think that this is due to the fact that show is quite well known and just by the title of the show and the two presenters Ant and Dec, an audience might already know what the show is about.
For our trailer we want to include a comedy element which comes from the show as well as the more informative side as our show is a pilot so the audience will not already know what TBMQ is about.
