Initially, I decided that I wanted my show to be:


  • Family orientated
  • Entertaining and fun 
  • Either a quiz/game show

From this, I then looked at already existing shows that followed a similar criteria. 

I have decided that I want my show to have 2 families as the contestants, who will each take part in a series of rounds that consist of children's game, playing on the idea that the children in the teams are the ones with all the knowledge, similar to the idea of the show "Are You Smarter Than A 10-Year-Old?". One of the rounds, I would be a quiz round where the adults and children would have to answer questions about shows and books that were meant for children.

I wanted to include different rounds where the contestants have to compete against each other in their teams to accumulate the most points in order to win the show. Other ideas I had were, the teams would have to finish the movie quote from the children's movie, the children from each team would dress up and act out a book and the parents from each team would have to guess what it was. I also want to have a host to carry the show along.

To develop my idea, I want to look more into shows like "Sam and Marks Big Wind-Up" which is targeted at a young audience but I like the idea of some of the rounds they have and the way they include adults and parents in the show.

PRE-PRODUCTION • Testing a Scene | Development

I was able to plan a test shoot of a specific scene from our most recent script, this was useful in many different ways, including planning the best position for cameras, looking at whether they would logistically fit 3 cameras in one room, how the lighting would work and the flow of the scene.  The first this I did on this day was set up the cameras in the dining room which is where the scene I had chosen takes place. I chose this specific scene because I felt this was one of the more tricky ones in the room was much smaller than some of the ones we had previously completed test shoots in as also because there is lots of movement in this scene and a need for artificial lighting as well.  I matched up the cameras with the same settings, these included the white balance, making sure they were set to the same Kelvin and the record settings - for this test I tried filming in Ultra HD at 25fps to compare to my previous test which was done in Full HD. PRE-PRODUCTION • 2nd Episode Synopsis | Development

As we decided that Young & Famous would be a 6-part series, we chose to write treatments for the other 5 episodes of the show. We initially decided on the storylines for the other episodes and the split up the task of writing them. I wrote the synopsis for episode 2, which we decided would have main character Annie trying to break a Guinness World Record in order to impress her family and Dean trying to find Betty's missing cat Arnold which results in an award that he's not expecting.  Young & Famous - Episode 2 Synopsis  Despite Annie and Dean’s failed first attempt to become young and famous, they don’t give up hope. After seeing reality TV star Kacey Kingsley wearing a designer knitted scarf, Annie decides to knit the world’s longest scarf and get into the Guinness World Records, adamant that this is the best way to gain her attention of her children and grandchildren. FICTION ADAPTATION • 59 by Harry Baker

" 59 loved 60 from afar, but 60 thought 59 was… odd. And then 60 met 61, who was like 60, but a little bit more. Together, 59 and 61 combined to become twice what 60 could ever be. A prime example of love!" My interpretation of the poem after to listening to Harry baker perform is that the characters 59, 60 and 61 are all quite young and the poem is based around that innocent first love. I wanted to portray this in my adaptation and by decided to create an animation, I felt I could successfully portray how I imaged the characters to look and act.  The poem contains lots of detailed descriptions of the characters and I wanted to stick with the poets descriptions of them, keeping to the orginalitiy of the poem but, by changing some of the locations and situations the characters to make it more my own adaptation.  The story in the poem is quite simple and I want to keep a certain simplicity to it as well.
